Beef especially can be excellent with simple salt! Make sure your seasonings enhance flavor. Another great read, the late (and much grieved at our house) Paul Prudhomme’s ‘Louisiana Kitchen’ again available on Amazon used for a couple of bucks and a masterpiece! Paul was a master of seasoning. Don’t kill it with seasonings and sauce, enhance the foods flavors. Barks on meat are great if they are right. However burnt, sugar and many other seasonings detract from the meats natural flavor. I personally love a meat you can eat without a sauce and then sauce if you want some added flavors going on!

This time you get an open structure without a door, under the grill you will find plenty of space for accessories and an easy access to the grease tray. Nothing flammable should be kept under the grill, which is why the gas tank is located to the right of the grill, on a hook.

10. Landmann 560202 Vista Barbecue Grill with Offset Smoker Box, Black Kevin- super helpful article. Thanks! I just moved from a big city small apartment with no grill to a house in the country. Most essential purchase is the grill. I’m really on the fence. I like the idea of a pellet grill, but in reality- I’m mostly cooking burgers, fish, steaks, scallops, and veggies. The brisket and ribs will be more of a special occasion. From an economical perspective, am I better buying a gas grill and just getting one of those smoke tubes to add some flavor? From many of the online comments, it seems like the pellet grills benefit from additional smoke anyway, and though you can get additional grates for searing, seems like a square peg in a round hole. The gas grill is sort of the tried and true, and way more economical. Those $500 entry level pellet grills seem a little scrawny, and the next level up is a cool $grand. I’m really on the fence, and getting pressure to “just buy the darn thing” to consummate the move to the country! However the pellet grills seem like the new shiny object and have my curiosity. Any advice? PS- love the website! Thanks, Cary

Savory Surf There are a number of electric smokers on our list, but this one sits at the top, despite its technical malfunctions. Since the manufacturers have had an opportunity to use previous failings to improve the shortcomings in the newer model, this smoker has a higher value than many other electric smokers. The customer service support also increases its value.

So, the major problem is inconsistent heat-transfer to the food. The grate is Teflon-coated for easy clean up: that's good. And, except for the center four inches or so, the grate's serrations are corrugated and slotted to allow heat-transfer and drainage: that's good too. But, heat transfer relies on that center four inches of solid grate: it's there to transfer heat from an isolated source to the surrounding grate. Unfortunately, the grate needed to be designed thin to reduce cost and weight, (it bends easily). Consequently, this grill simply cannot cook evenly or expediently:and it will require your undivided attention to avoid over-cooking and under-cooking, i.e. constantly moving food. Since substantial radiation is sacrificed for size, a heavier grate with larger perforations is needed for more efficient and sustained conduction. But, that would require more R&D and a major field change in design to accommodate heavier material, i.e. more expense.
If you need a bit more room on your grill, or if you particularly value maximum convenience, consider our upgrade pick, the Weber Genesis II E-310 Gas Grill. Though it’s just 3 inches wider than the Spirit E-310 overall, it offers 20 percent more grilling area. And we love a couple of its unique design features: The externally mounted propane tank is easier to install and replace than traditional under-grill tanks, and it also frees up the area under the grill for storage of tools and other items. We didn’t notice a significant upgrade in performance from the newly designed burners, but that’s okay—this grill is an exceptional performer, period.
