It comes with a removable drip pan. However, looking for the cheapest possible grill can prove to be a huge mistake in the long run as you may find yourself constantly having to replace parts.
Direct grilling is become more and more popular as people would prefer their grill be able to handle both grilling and smoking. In addition, the pellet hopper can hold a large amount of wood pellets. This means that you won’t need to frequently refill your hopper, which just adds to its convenience. It can hold up to 18 pounds of pellets. Its automatic mode allows it to disperse them throughout the cooking process as it maintains the desired temperature.

Best Reviewed Ben S says Beauty, Health & Food DMCA Hal – your points are well made, sir. The “set it and forget it” – at least for me – means you don’t need to “tend the fire” as you might when using charcoal pits, etc. I have had very (next to none at all) problems with any pellet smoker I’ve used — so long as I make sure to clean it out regularly and maintain it as directed.
Best for Money 5.0 out of 5 starsGreat first try! Look forward to a follow up test and review! Because natural gas and propane are colorless and odorless a foul smelling compound called mercaptan is mixed in to alert people of dangerous leaks. We occasionally encounter the myth that cooking with gas imparts a foul taste and aroma due to the mercaptans. The AmazingRibs.com science advisor Prof. Greg Blonder calls this "A complete falsehood. When gas burns, the mercaptans turn into sulfur dioxide, which becomes sulfuric acid due to the water produced by combustion. The small amount of sulfur deposited on your food when burning gas is orders of magnitude less than naturally present in food, or added with garlic or onion powder in rubs, or found in the smoke from burning charcoal or wood. Natural gas is a very clean burning fuel."

No condiment rack. It comes with a 363 sq.in. cooking space made of porcelain-coated cast-iron grates. And when you need to do a larger cookout, the firebox has a cooking grate that gives you 169 sq.in worth of extra grilling space.
Let’s remind ourselves a few things from our physics classes: smoke and heat are less dense than air, and so they will naturally want to go upwards rather than sideways. So, as the smoke and heat exit the firebox, they try as much as possible to go up, making the side of the cooking chamber that’s closest to the firebox much hotter than the other parts.
However, without a legitimate chimney, this can quickly lead to too much smoke. dandeliion March 19, 2017
If you live in an area where wood furnaces are used (not like down here in FL where a few heat strips will do the trick), you may also be familiar with pellet furnaces. In short, pellets compressed from sawdust and wood shavings fill a hopper and are then fed into a burn pot using an electric auger system. The auger, which is basically a long screw, delivers pellets to the burn pot based on the speed dictated by the unit’s thermostat.

We wish Weber would take a cue from some competitors (including Broil King) and make the bars of its warming racks run front to back, parallel to the main grates. That way, you could easily slide a spatula under stuff that’s warming. As it is, the warming-rack bars run edge to edge, and you have to awkwardly jimmy a spatula in there sideways.
prettyricky Rubbery skin has very little to do with the type of heat (direct vs indirect). Rubbery skin is a result of too low a cooking temperature. Take your smoker/grill or whatever you use and get the temperature in the mid 400’s or even higher and you will get crispy skin. One thing though never let the internal temperature of your bird get over 150 or you’ll have crispy skin and dry crunchy meat too. Take it off the grill and let is rest a full 30 minutes. Best bird you’ll ever eat no matter which grill, smoker, 50 gal barrel, etc you cooked it on.
Really good value (you get a lot for the money!) When you have owned your smoker grill for 5-6 years you start wondering about owning a new one. This might happen because you are facing problems with your machine and not getting the desired result. The first and primary advice in this situation remains to clean up your grill thoroughly. Open up each and every part then proceed to doing a thorough cleaning. Most of the problems like temperature inconsistency or jamming will get solved this way.
Our Rating: 4.6/5 at 7:34 AM A digital smoker will always be easier to manage than a simple charcoal burner, but that preference comes down to customer desires, and we did not use this as part of our considerations. Instead, we examined how easily the smokers could be set up, cleaned, moved, and used. While some are intrinsically more portable than others, we relied on the manufacturer’s claims. Not all smokers are designed to be frequently moved, for instance, but if a manufacturer touted portability, the smoker in question came under scrutiny for its ease of movement and ability to travel.

Did I miss any reference to the MHP gas grill? My MHP still heats to 450 degrees plus after 10 years with zero rust on the outside. I have replaced the burners once. The grills and outside box are aluminum so zero corrosion. These tests are crap if they do not test all the competition.
Half Order and Fruit Grills are a little hard to assemble if you aren’t experienced with putting together household equipment; that’s just how it is. However, grills like the Weber brands have good instructions and are considered easier than many other grills that require assembly. The Weber also has a grill – the portable Q 3200 – that comes mostly pre-assembled except for a few pieces.

Char-Broil's Advantage Series gas grills are one of their most popular product lines, and this $200, four-burner stainless is the best seller. As mentioned above, two-zone cooking is an essential technique for many barbecue recipes, and this good-sized grill makes it easy to set up distinct direct and indirect heat zones. Overall construction is lightweight, but a little better than many other brands in this price range. If you really have a tight budget and want a grill this size, you could do a lot worse. Advantage owners seem pretty pleased with their purchase.
Knife Skills The exterior is made of a heavy gauge porcelain-coated steel for extremely high heat resistance levels. The one drawback is that you’re still going to be limited to charcoal use. That doesn’t need to be a deal-killer, but just be aware that it could cause some issues if you have other smoking dreams.
What are your thoughts about the Kalamazoo hybrid grills? From what I’ve found online, you have the choice of gas, charcoal and wood for cooking or combinations of all. I have no first hand experience with Kalamazoo but it seems very versatile? At the moment after a month of researching, I’m leaning towards a Mac/Yoder or a Webber spirit & egg or a Memphis….so in other words, I’m no closer to a decision than when I started. I currently have a 9 yr old treager that won’t break, seriously, I’ve only repainted once with rustolium….dang thing won’t break so I can get a new toy. I sear in a skillet in the kitchen. My treager has the smoke/med/high switch and I want more control, I’ve maxed what I can do and it’s a challenge in cold weather and wind but it was a great start when they were made to last, more than got my money’s worth. I cook at all levels from smoking to grilling. I do love pellets and don’t want an egg but enjoy the food as much as the process of preparing it. Ok probably to much info but money aside, will you list your recommendations of what you think is best for me?

Still, it should be fairly easy to control the heat from the starting point as this offset smoker features side door access for both the firebox and the grill. My wife bought me the standard version of this smoker last year for fathers day and it was mediocre, the cooking space is small and you'll have a tough time smoking 2 good racks of ribs on it, but it got the job done. I just bought Deluxe version for a Memorial Day BBQ and it is far superior to the standard. If you are thinking about purchasing this you owe it to yourself to spend the little bit extra and get the deluxe. The firebox on my standard version has gotten rusty but hasn't rusted through. It has held up pretty well over the course of the last year. All things considered if you are aware up front that you are getting something that you will replace in a year or 2 this is a good purchase.
Kevin, As any pellet smoker knows, getting the temperature set right is crucial. It will all go wrong if you can’t get that right. The Camp Chef PG24 has a built-in digital thermometer and fully controllable temperature settings. Put it to the temperature you want on the screen and let it get on with it. No lifting the lid to peer at the pellets, letting out precious heat and smoke. It is all in hand, if the smoker detects it is getting too cold, it can feed itself more fuel. This is quality smoke made easy.

Single-door design Post comments and questions below Convenience ( saving time ) – The best and shortest answer to that question is one word – convenience. Regardless of whether you’re a fan of gas, pellet, charcoal grills or any other type, you have to admit they are pretty convenient. When you come back home tired after work and want to quickly cook a dinner for the whole family, a gas grill is definitely more convenient than a charcoal one, as you don’t have to bother yourself getting the grill burning, which is often quite a messy task.
The Smart Smoke technology is one of the most convenient and easy to use features on the grill. It contains a dual LED temperature readout that keeps the heat at a constant temperature. This means you have more time for socializing and can sit back and relax. The temperature ranges from 160 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The grill uses a pellet feeder system that burns slowly to add intense flavor to your food. It also uses an electric auto-start ignition that requires the grill be plugged into a standard 120v outlet.
