EASY START: Push and turn ignition. No batteries or external flame needed. lynne BBQ Smokers Many construction considerations also address safety concerns. Again, grill stability is important because it can prevent tipping. Avoid grills with sharp metal corners and edges. Test the handle: Your knuckles or fingers shouldn't be too close to the hot lid. And though some flame flare is normal, the greater the distance between the grates and burners or flavorizer bars, the fewer the sustained flare-ups.
Affordable value November 15, 2017 Going through a very long smoking session? When a tray’s coals get burned out, just remove the entire tray, empty the ash and refill it, then place it back in the smoker.
But, with a gas smoker, you can set the temperature and walk away without worrying about your food burning up or cooling down. Not bad for a small starter smoker grill. The paint peeled even after we seasoned it with a small fire.Read more
The Char-Broil American Gourmet is a simple offset smoker with plenty of space for a family cookout. This grill has a separate firebox that can also be used for direct cooking and searing.
Groom+Style don’t look at this as a grill that you will own for the long-term, even though the burners come with a five-year warranty; the casing won’t last that long unless you live in a very temperate climate or keep the grill in the garage except when using it (the large wheels on the Classic make that very doable).

As for the Weber Q Series, we have tested models from it. In a previous version of this guide we recommended the Q1200 for those who were looking for a portable grill. However, we are now planning on putting together a dedicated guide to portables, so the Q series was removed from this guide and will be covered there. If you have any questions about the Q series let us know. I purchased the Q1200 back when we recommended it because, while I did not need a portable, it was the right size and price for me.
As for maintenance, the Spirit’s flat grates were easy to keep clean with a grill brush, and its grease trap was easy to access for dumping and washing. The same goes for the Genesis II, whose grates are identically made but slightly larger. The other grills also have easy-access grease traps—not much to ask for, really. But we found the Napoleon model’s wavy grills hard to clean, since we couldn’t run the grill brush in long strokes.
Grills are big purchases, so expect to pay at least $600 for a good grill that will last you a long time. Don’t cheap out on grills because you want them to do their job well without breaking down after only a few years. Generally speaking, the more burners and special features the grill has, the more expensive it will get. A medium-range for a grill with at least 4 burners and some kind of side burner or sear station will be around $1500. The more expensive ones can top off at $3000. Grills are kind of like cars in that there will always be one that’s more expensive and has more cool frills to it, but you want to really think about how many of those features you’ll be using and how often. You don’t want to buy a really expensive grill only to find out you could have done just fine with one that’s hundreds of dollars cheaper.

Poorly fitting chip box lid: The lid doesn’t fit well on the chip box, so it doesn’t serve its purpose. Those who are looking for that extra safety precaution may be disappointed they can’t rely on it.

It’s a Smokehouse – A grill full of burning embers will easily double as a smoker (although they are NOT generally capable of achieving a multi-hour cold smoke). After a couple of barbecues, you’ll figure out the temperatures and times needed to enjoy that smokehouse flavor.

SO I am thinking about getting a pellet smoker-grill. I am wondering one thing before I take this plunge. Right now I use a bradley digital smoker. It is nice because it has a heat element for long brisket type smokes, but its briquette feeder never works correctly and wastes wood which gets expensive. SO thinking about going to a Pellet smoker.

Durable stainless steel construction So, there are a few different styles out there, and for some people, what a grill looks like really matters. My grandfather had a huge barrel version, so it comes as no surprise to me that I have always loved the look of those. I know plenty of people who won’t cook on anything but a kettle model, though. You also have the bulkier models that look more like a gas unit, if you want a more contemporary look.
