This product is not awful. It's just that it could've been much better. I've kept it because I cook for one and a little extra time cooking doesn't bother. (And that, by the way, is the grill's strongest attraction - cooking for one). But to those considering purchasing this: don't expect your efforts to produce the same product you might get from a larger grill. It won't happen. What you save in charcoal and start-up time, you lose in cooking time and flavor. And, I don't believe the alternatives (competitors) would perform any better unless their grates are of heavier material to offer better conduction and radiation.
