You can make some pretty good meat on a regular charcoal grill, but you are going to need a smoker if you want to make the best ribs, turkey, pulled pork and other delicacies. Investing in a good smoker to get these amazing flavors in your food is a must if you like to cook outdoors — a smoker will last for years and will make outdoor cooking a breeze.
My 18 year old Weber Genesis Silver C is in great shape despite the hot inland desert sun of San Bernardino and the winter rains from being at the foot of the San Bernardino mountains. It has a cover but it is off 80% of the time. I had to replace the ignition button some years ago. I also replaced the flavorizer bars about five years ago. And, I upgraded my original cast iron grates a couple of years ago to porcelainized iron. That is not bad for a grill that will be old enough to vote in just three years. The burner has stood up well and is still in good condition. The box, tables, and side burner are all top notch as well. Only dissapointment is that the warming rack and shelf are coated metal that flakes off and corrodes rather quickly.

One last feature of the Komodo is the aesthetic appeal. The outside of the unit is beautifully covered in mosaic tiles, available in several color options. This gives the cooker an almost Middle Eastern look to it, which is just stunning. With all of these great features, you can (almost) understand the huge price tag.
Some pellet grills, mainly Camp Chef pellet grills, come with a patented ash cleanout system. Having this type of system in place makes cleaning up as simple as pulling a lever.

Meal was rushed - sat down; got the tea, served my salad and before I was 1/3 of the way done with the salad the meal was served.
In this guide we cover the best grill smoker combos that excel at both tasks. While you can rig almost anything into a smoker grill combo with enough mods, we’ve focused on units that can do both jobs well without needing too much fiddling around.
This is a great hands-off smoker for those looking for great food with minimal work. Its flaws are small and easily remedied, and since it sits comfortably in the mid-price range, those little fixes are affordable.

Cover your grill to extend its life First, I don't buy a $70 smoker grill and expect to get a $600 Weber. That said, this grill is sturdier than I expected. I've had more expensive grills that were significantly flimsier. The grill is also much tighter than I expected. No, it is nowhere near airtight. But, it is not a smoker; it is a smoker grill. Many reviews suggest the writer doesn't know there is a difference. The side firebox works great to smoke food with indirect heat and the grill holds temperature fairly well. By that, I mean heat loss occurs steadily, but somewhat quickly, as the fuel source burns down. This is a small grill, which, depending on your needs, is a plus or minus. It is great for 1 - 4 people. It just fit 2 racks of uncooked pork ribs, or 8 large hamburgers. The one big negative is the thermometer. While I have never had a grill which had an accurate built-in thermometer - including Webers - this one is almost useless. After 6 hours of smoking, keeping track of the temperature by the grill's thermometer, the ribs were still mostly uncooked. I tested the thermometer by hanging a remote control grilling thermometer's probe down the chimney so that it was suspended in the cooking chamber. I know this thermometer to be accurate and it recorded temperatures as much as 100 degrees below the temperature shown on the grill's thermometer. Despite its temperature probe, I suspect the grill's thermometer is picking up a lot of heat from the lid itself. So, to sum it up, it's no gold standard grill, but it is better than the price would suggest. It's small, it smokes great, but DON'T rely on its thermometer!
Being the least expensive among the many types of smokers, this is the most popular in the market. Vertical smoker has three basic compartments. The bottommost compartment is the heat source, which could be a charcoal, gas burner, or an electrical source. Then, the water pan is located in the middle compartment. This functions by regulating and storing the heat of the smoker, at the same time deflecting the direct heat. Moreover, the water pan retains the moisture of the meat. The top compartment is the smoking chamber.

Popular Articles Fuel Types – If you haven’t considered how you plan on fueling your gas grill, now is the time to do so. You have two options: propane or natural gas. The main difference between the two is that propane gas grills can be moved around since they only require a portable refillable tank. On the other hand, natural gas gives you the option of connecting your grill to your homes natural gas plumbing. The advantage here is that you’ll never need to refill a gas tank, however, your gas grill will most likely become stationary.

If a burner seems to be running cool or creates patchy flames, use a thin piece of wire (many grills come with one on a chain) to clean out the gas ports, the little holes. There’s nothing inside the burners to break, so don’t feel like you have to be delicate.
