I talk with a lot of teams out there, and I know for certain that some of them have turned to my buddy Fred Grosse’s MojoBricks to boost their smoke profile when using pellet grills. In fact, of the teams who win with Pellet Smokers – I’d wager at least a quarter of them to maybe half have used MojoBricks to round out their final product. I really like Fred as well – which makes it a pleasure to include his products in this grouping of pellet grill reviews.

GRILLS Grills are simple when you think about it. It's fire, stainless steel, and other elements. However, there is a big difference in performance between many brands.
Please see this link for my reviews criteria and disclosures. PRICE COMPARISON 8 Thank you so much for the kind words! I think you would be very happy with a smaller pellet grill / smoker. The wording changes depending on how you are using the device. For instance, if you are cooking at low temperatures you will get a stronger smoke profile then if you burn a pellet smoker / grill at its higher temperature range. One thing you could do for steaks is cook them at the higher range thus being able to get a sear much like you would on a direct heated Grill service, for instance on your Weber. Another option would be to cook the steak in the reverse see your method, by bringing it up to temperature at a lower smoker setting and adding some smoke flavoring that way, then removing it and bringing the smoker up to its higher settings so you can finish off the steak with some of the effect you would achieve on direct flame. I normally do this by bringing the steaks up to about 15 degrees below where I want them to finish. Then, I finish them off at the higher temperature to where they are about 5 degrees below my target. This usually means a few minutes on each side but I use a Thermapen to be sure.

As such, controlling the temperature with wood requires more skill, failure to do so can leave food cooked unevenly or covered with soot. An alternative to either is wood pellets which are precisely manufactured, burn similarly to charcoal but have the flavor of wood.
Excellent article, but I have an off beat question. What about cleanup and maintenance of the pellet smokers you have reviewed? Is anyone better or easier for ash cleanup? I have a friend who has Yoder and his only complaint is the amount of time and complexity of cleaning up the pellet ash. Thank you in advance.
by Danielle McLeod | Oct 22, 2016 | 0 Best Cheeseburgers in Grand Lake They may require assembly, but no particular skills (other than patience) is required. The build of a propane grill is very simple and generally made up of two parts – the actual grill and the propane bottle (see this study). Attaching the natural gas bottle to the grill is all that is really needed to get it started. You can purchase a freestanding grill and arrange for it to be built in if you prefer, but this is not necessary for use.
Takes Reservations Yes Hey Adam, between the two, I’d go with Yoder. It may take a little more time to get to temp than the Rec-Tec, but you will appreciate the build quality over the long term that comes with the Yoder brand. Heavier metal construction on the Yoder will serve you well on those longer cooks.
Meat Mitch This is one of the most popular outdoor best charcoal grill smoker under $1000, that operates on natural gas. One of the most striking product attributes of this product is its sophisticated burners made of stainless steel.

Getting the BBQ Grill Light to fit on the handle of my trusty Char-Broil patio grill was easy. Just unscrew the nut to open up some space, place it on the handle, and screw the nut back down again. Be careful not to over-tighten it.
5. ABOVE $800 There are other options, KBQ for one, but I want it to look like a grill. Not a refrigerator, although I’m sure they make great Q I have narrowed my search to Pellet poopers or the Primo or Egg. The Pellet poopers will have more capacity than even the XL Primo/Egg. But are they one trick ponies? Smoking and baking. WIth limited smoke profile. I wish I could taste the Que off of one to know for sure. I got rid of my gasser because of the limited flavor it produced. Rec-Tec’s tag line is Do you cook with wood. But does it produce enough smoke flavor for most people? How do your neighbors respond to your Que? Do they like the smoke profile of the Que? Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to figure out what the next smoker will be at Mi Casa.

RECIPES Easy control panel Ribs and Pork Butts Cooked on the Grilla Grills “Grilla” Model Pellet Smoker Our Rating: 4.6/5 Accessibility Help Another good cheap gas grill, not very popular and in my opinion unappreciated. A grill in a lower price range, the main cause of the lower price is its size. A small gas grill that was actually very well-made despite what you may think. I’d say it’s a great choice for a really small family, a couple, a single person or for those with limited space. It is worth remarking that the quality is really high here, especially relative to the price.
Hey Mike – yes, I’ve looked at and used the Traeger Pro models, and I like them. I’ll be doing a review of the Traeger Pro 22 that I now own. Definitely go with the Pro Model, which you can find at Ace Hardware stores or any of the locations you find via the Traeger Grills store locator here.

This product boasts a proud history of grilling for tailgating and get togethers between family members. Cookouts are also an easy place to use these grills. Several consumers boasted about how amazing these machines are to move from one place to another, making it not only very well priced, but also incredibly easy to use. This smoking machine should be rated a ten out of ten.
As you can see from the image of a Traeger Pellet Grill above, pellets move from a hopper (left) via an auger to a burn pot (far right). The rate at which the pellets are fed into the hopper is dictated by your Pellet grill’s thermostat. Extra fuel in the form of oxygen is blown over the burn pot to increase the burn rate and help regulate a nice, steady, and efficient burn. The lower your temp, the more smoke is created.

Nordstrom at Home Hydrocotton Bath Towel (2 for $48) I don’t know why these cookers are referred to as grills. By definition they are not grills. Grilling involves cooking with direct heat and none of the pellet cookers I’ve seen use direct heat; they all use indirect heat. They are more accurately described as smokers/convection ovens. For me what this means is they’re useless for cooking chicken since I like my chicken cooked with crispy/burned skin. I’ve done some experimenting to get the skin to crisp up but always end up with leather skin. They have their place in outdoor cooking but grilling ain’t it. I just bought a Green Mountain and I’m still debating if I’m going to hang on to it. Shame on me for not doing more thorough research first.
Especially if you want to keep the best quality to price ratio and get a device that will last for years while helping you prepare great food.
Hey Di! I use Grillgrates when I want to cook steaks on my GMG, and would recommend them for any pellet grill… or grill period for that matter. They leave AMAZING sear marks! I do the “reverse sear” method. This lets you smoke/roast your steaks and then fire them off for searing at the end. Here’s what I do. (Find Grillgrates on Amazon here.)
Napoleon is a Canadian company that makes terrific grills. This is probably the biggest difference in characteristics and quality that you’ll see when comparing BBQ grill mats. The thickness is directly related to the amount and type of nonstick layers and is an obvious cost-cutting area in manufacture. Some grill mats are literally paper thin. This is never a good idea.
When asked about what he looks for in a good gas grill he said, “You want one that has some kind of flareup control, so if you drip some grease it doesn’t turn into a tire fire and ruin your food – especially chicken.” The most important point Lexerot stressed was, “If you’re going to get a grill that you plan on using regularly, get a sturdy grill that has ample features, is easy to use and that will hold up overtime. Make sure to get a gas grill that’s going to hold up, big enough for your needs, has a warming rack.”
The pellet smoker combines the flavor of charcoal, with the convenience of an electric smoker. The small pellets are made of hardwood sawdust, and when burned in the smoker impart a delicious smoky taste to any food being cooked. Like an electric smoker, the user can dial up the temperature required for the smoke, and let the smoker do the rest. Modern high-end machines provide a regular supply of pellets to be burned, and all the operator needs to do is make sure the smoker does not run out of pellets during the smoke. The flavor you get from a pellet smoker is not as rich and deep as from a charcoal smoker. However, it does have all the convenience of the electric type.
Bull Raises over $60K at the 2017 Grill for Good Gala How to smoke on a gas grill The second feature is the weather protected charcoal bag on the side, this can double as trash basket in case you have already sorted out your charcoal storage and the cover can be used as a table for all your ingredients Weber also added some structural changes such as sturdier wheels and a removable cook timer. All in all, this is a grill that is well worth your time and money.
Clearly, this had to be our Top Charcoal Pick. It has amazing quality smoke, a really solid construction, a cool mini look, the brilliant feature of a porcelain steam pan for extra delicious moisture, and it is efficient! Good stuff.
As with all pellet smokers, there’s a lot to like, and a few things that can be improved, but as far as compact portable grills go, there’s very few available on the market, therefore the GM Davy Crockett is our top pick of a rather short list.

Outdoor Refrigeration It’s still a great pellet smoker and it manages to get to a sizzling 500°F pretty darn quickly. We also had one of the tastiest meals from this grill. We love recommending and reviewing wood pellet smoker grills, but we also want you to get the most out of them once you purchase. Without proper care and maintenance, even the best pellet smoker is bound to have a shorter lifespan. Therefore, how you use your smoker and how you maintain it after use greatly determines how long it will serve you. A little bit of work will go a long way to extending the life of your smoker. A thorough cleaning of the smoker should occur at least once a year. If you frequently use it, you should have it done at least three times a year. Buying quality pellets will extend its life as well.
at 1:05 AM To be perfectly plain: The Dyna-Glo grill is not built to last year after year. It’s made of thin sheet steel, including the firebox, and it will rust out quickly. Compared with our top pick and our upgrade pick, it’s flimsy and crudely designed. It isn’t a lifetime investment—and it isn’t priced as such. But it works decently for what it costs, and if you need a grill only for an event or for a year or two, it’s worth a look. Keep it covered or under shelter, and you’ll get the most for your money.
Linda Watts When shopping, you’ll want to carefully check the construction of the grill. Look at—even jostle—the assembled grill from several points to test sturdiness; the more stable, the better. Check the cart, wheels, lid, and firebox. Stainless steel carts with seamless construction and welded joints are usually sturdier than painted steel carts assembled with nuts and bolts. Wheels or casters at all four corners make a grill easier to maneuver. And wheels with a full axle are better than those bolted to the frame.
Hi there i want to recommend the CAMP CHEF pellet smokers you get the bang for your buck with these smokers i know a lot of you out there are turning up your noses but these smokers have all the extras at a very good price well under a $1000 customer service second to none you get the pellet clean out in the hopper they have a ash tray under the body you just pull a lever and all your burnt ash is cleaned out digital temp for the food digital temp for the chamber lo smoke and high smoke setting and it goes up to 500 degrees at 25 degree increments mine coast me $359 out the door includes shipping it dose a wonderful job holding the temps with a 10 to 15 degrees swing i bought mine at CAMP SAVER.
Also, think through storage. If you buy a large, high quality smoker, you may end up with a unit that will never move again. High grade smokers are made of heaven duty steel, so a smoker with that sort of construction is going to require you and a crew of friends to get it shifted.
