A.  The most obvious and important fact is that using the MLS instead of detergents is preventing petrochemicals from getting dumped into our fresh water supplies, helping to preserve our most valuable natural resource critical for human survival. Furthermore, bypassing the rinse cycle can save massive additional water usage (20-40 gallons of fresh water per load), electricity (derived mostly from burning coal and oil which are big pollutants), natural gas (for heating the extra water) and sewage. It also may possibly help reduce the causes of global warming–since such a massive amount of detergents are made and used around the world, significant resources (fossil fuels) are used in manufacturing and delivery.
Water “hardness” is a measure of dissolved mineral content. As water seeps through soil and aquifers, it often contacts minerals such as limestone and dolomite. Under the right conditions, small amounts of these minerals will dissolve in the ground water and the water will become “hard.” Water hardness is quantified by the concentration of dissolved hardness minerals. The most common hardness minerals are carbonates and sulfates of magnesium and calcium. Water with a total hardness mineral concentration of less than about 17 parts per million (ppm) is categorized as “soft” by the Water Quality Association (Harrison 1993). “Moderately hard” water has a concentration of 60 to 120 ppm. “Very hard” water exceeds 180 ppm.
The earth’s magnetic field naturally charges water in lakes, wells, and running streams. Water that passes through your city water treatment plant is transported through underground piping which causes the water to lose its magnetic energy; therefore treating water by passing it through a magnetic field will restore the natural energy and balance. It also rids the water of memory. There are systems available that magnetize the water as it comes into the faucet. These are known as point of use or point of discharge systems. … Magnetized water tastes sweeter and has more clarity; promotes a more alkaline pH in the body; is beneficial to wounds and burns; has a beneficial effect on digestive, nervous and urinary systems; revitalizes the body; provides positive effect on the nervous system; has been beneficial for kidney ailments, obesity and premature aging, and may help relieve discomfort. … Magnetic water controls scale buildup in pipes and plumbing. Magnetic water has a positive effect on plant growth. Magnetic water is more solvent and has a lower surface tension, so nutrients in the water are absorbed more readily. Use on agricultural crops results in improved quality of the plants with a reduction in the use of fertilizer.
The only problem is that water sticks together. When you think of water you think of two hydrogen and one oxygen molecule, but actually water is more like 20 hydrogen and 10 oxygen. Back in the 1970’s, superstructures of water were both theorized and discovered.  The same polar nature that makes water a good solvent, causes water to stick to itself and form large superstructures. The problem is magnified in hard water where water amalgamations give water unique properties like tremendous service tension (watch a bug walk across the surface of water) and great resistance to evaporation.  These superstructures are too large and too preoccupied to be valuable cleaning agents, so the way to change the actual physical characteristics of water is to pass it by focused magnetic fields. Since opposites attract, and water acts magnetically; passing water through a series of magnetic fields pulls it first one way and then the other. The forces tugging on the individual water molecules will break up the superstructures and create smaller individual water molecules. Some people call this process restructuring. These small, polar water molecules can then slip easily into fabrics, carpets, etc. dissolving and removing dirt and stains without chemicals.
I was very excited when I heard about The Patented Magnetic Laundry System.  The website says that they can be used without detergent to get clean laundry with out the chemicals!  This I had to try!!!
Hi everyone! I’ve recently read that magnets can be used instead of detergent for washing clothes. Has anyone ever tried it? I would be wonderful not having to continue dumping cleaning substances into wash water.
Magnetic Laundry System is a highly-recommended product that helps you clean efficiently. This product is incredibly healthy and provides environmental benefits of preventing the environment and clothes from the petrochemical detergents. It will help you keep the laundry room cleaner and safer. It fights against the bacterias. It allows to eliminate the use of toxic laundry detergent at your home and make this world an environmentally friendly place to live. This product comes with an amazing policy:

Purveyors of magnetic water treatment devices claim that exposing water to a magnetic field will decrease the water’s “effective” hardness. Typical claims include the elimination of scale deposits, lower water-heating bills, extended life of water heaters and household appliances, and more efficient use of soaps and detergents. Thus, it is claimed, magnetic water treatment gives all the benefits of water softened by ion-exchange without the expense and hassle of rock-salt additions.
The only thing missing is the one thing which Life Miracle could publish only if the product actually works: the results of rigorous laboratory tests showing that clothes washed with the magnets end up cleaner than clothes washed in nothing but water.
Hi Jonathan, thank you for this blog. I almost considered going for it after seeing a Facebook ad but had a bad feeling about it. My one point of confusion is how it got so many 4 and 5 star reviews from verified purchasers on Amazon. Any thoughts on the matter?
I made a bogus-bingo a few years back. Added words like “atomic level”, “Universal cure”, “basic nature of” and several other dreadful attempts at mimicking a scientific jargon. I’m fairly sure I’d be shouting “BINGO” after about half a page of this. I’m almost surprised they didn’t add “quantum level” anywhere in the text 😉
“A gentleman friend of mine places one of his discs in his fish aquarium (with fish)… swears he almost never has to clean and change their water. At least not as often as he used to. Fish are thriving… After shampooing my hair, I spray my hair with structured water, it DE-TANGLES, leaves my hair less frizzy… While I am running my bath water, I put the disc in the tub. I Leave it in while bathing. I Can’t believe how soft I feel after. For you ladeeeees, I spray it on my legs, no Shaving cream needed, or soap lather, The razor just glides. After washing my face, I sprits my face with the structured water, My face feels so smooth, although I still use a moisturizer.”
Thank you for your posting.I did not purchase these products because of folks such as yourself showing the truth. Are these not the same or similar products that James Randi proved only contained blue food dyed water and weak magnets not strong enough to change water polarity or some such thing?Companies that rip people off get away with FAR too much in the US,and far too much meaning “anything at all that rips ppl off, this company, telemarketer scams, infomercial products, all of it. Sickening! Appreciate what you do and wrote here.Thank you. From Alana
Today I remembered to do my research. I didn’t bother with the ads – as soon as I saw “Magnetic Laundry Scam” in the search engine, I knew I’d found what I was looking for: a dissatisfied customer. And, unlike some such customers, you, my good man, actually ran a scientific test to reveal exactly what’s going on. Kudos!
The video about the magnetic laundry system popped on my computer, so I listened. Sounded interesting. I decided to do some additional internet research about this product to see what else is said about it out there. Happened across this website. Sounds like the magnetic laundry system is full of holes. Last summer I had already started making my own laundry soap. It cost me about $25-$30 to buy the ingredients. And the recipe I made last summer is still being used. And it works just as well (I think better) than store bought detergents. You can make it scent free or add a scent if you want that. This is the way to go. Waste of my time to listen to the video about the magnetic laundry system. But glad I am a savvy shopper.
The cat peed again. I tossed the offending item in, but this time with cold water. The odor was still faintly there. I ran it again with hot water and it was perfect.  So I learned that hot water is definitely helpful when you have something extra challenging.
The Laundry Solution, a 21ST Century technology, promises to free us from environmentally-damaging and harsh laundry detergents. Laundry Balls are non-polluting, non-toxic, hypo-allergenic, color-safe, convenient, economical, do not promote static cling and will not damage fabrics. Independent investigation reveals that they are so benign as to be virtually inert. But it’s hard to dismiss the reports of strong customer satisfaction.
Does magnetic water treatment perform as well as ion-exchange treatment? Definitely not. At present, the conventional water softening technologies are clearly much more reliable and effective. Further, the initial cost of an ion-exchange water softener (around $500) is comparable to that of many magnetic treatment systems.
However I have been able to lessen the amount of main stream detergent I use on all loads including the diapers (which use a full scoop regularly) I can actually notice the difference in the water…hard water causes the detergent to not bubble up as much and not work as well.  Well with the magnetic balls I imeadatly noticed that my detergent bubbled more and thus I can use way less.  And by way I mean less then half of what I used to use per load.  That equals huge savings in a household of seven.
The Life Miracle® Magnetic Laundry System works under a unique means of water maintenance through direct application of magnetic force. Water has long been known as the “universal solvent”. The Laundry System incorporates powerful, specially calibrated magnetism to help alter the basic nature of water and increase its natural solvency.
Just as the only way you can prove that your product actually works is to provide objective evidence that it cleans better than water alone, the only way you can prove that you actually care how your customers are treated is to sever your relationship with any distributor which is found to be cheating people.

After complaints, Trade-Net’s claims were investigated by consumer protection departments in Utah, Oregon and Florida, amongst others, and the company was prohibited from making certain claims, including that “such product cleans as well as conventional laundry detergent”. Trade-Net offered a ‘new’ laundry ball product after this, but were forced to pay fines,[15] including $190,000 to Oregon’s Department of Justice, $10,000 to Utah and then in April 1999, $155,000 to the states of New York, Arizona, Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma and the FTC. The company disappeared shortly thereafter.[16] The Federal Trade Commission has levied fines against other companies for similar fraudulent claims.[17] However, other companies kept selling similar products over the Internet.[18]

I’d say that marginally intelligent people like myself who retain vestiges of total gullibility will have fallen for the “toxic detergent” bait. However, completely rinsing my clothing of that residue, to the tune of $69, is the real joke.

Constructed with special permanent magnetic materials calibrated for a washing machine, it’s a simple application of technologically advanced materials, originally developed for NASA’s space program. The Magnetic laundry System uses specially calibrated permanent magnetic balls, to alter solvency. When water, or any stream of atoms, enters a powerful magnetic field, it physically changes in the same way atoms change when run through particle accelerators used by physicists.

I know you’re supposed to use cold water for colors that might bleed.  And you can still do that.  But for heavily soiled clothes you’re going to want to use hot water.  This isn’t necessarily a limitation of the magnet system, it’s just that oil, dirt, grime, and grease come out better with hot water.

Manufacturers rarely agree on why their laundry balls work, hinting that these claims are just made up by each individual manufacturer.[3][11] Some claims are not backed by science, while others are an exaggeration of benefits.[2] Balls that contain detergents may offer more cleaning power than water alone because their ingredients are comparable to normal washing powder, but in smaller quantities. It is claimed that conventional washing powder manufacturers recommend using more powder than is necessary, and that these powders contain unnecessary fillers or fragrances.[4]

Other pages at this site deal with magnetic treatment of plant seeds, lawn grass, tomato plants, cotton fields, etc.etc. My advice would be to check with your local Agricultural Extension Service agent before betting the farm on miracle magnetics.

I am sending back the magnets mailed September 28th 2015. No packing slip was in the bedraggled priority mail envelope. If I got a warrantee card, I don’t have one now. I tried the magnets and my clothes seemed clean. My problem is the washing machine “walked” from poor balance (shifting weight of the magnets). I had a full load and the machine was brand new. it stopped before completion of the wash cycle. I dared not continue for if I had actually broken the machine (shared) I would be in a big problem. Luckily I still had the mailing envelope witch shows the date sent (and shows me within the warranty period) and my name and address, and the original USPS tracking #. The cost is significant enough that I do hope to receive a refund, Linda Canham

Magnetic force is one of the most powerful forces on earth. In fact, the earth itself is like a giant magnet with a north and south pole. It is an amazing source of natural energy. Even the weak magne…

Except, of course, that everything you do to make money in your life is predicated on convincing people that “mainstream” is bad and “alternative” is good, so convincing people that the people debunking crackpot science are all part of the mainstream conspiracy helps you sell more of your own products.

For blood stains, especially ones that are set in, soaking overnight in peroxide can work wonders. Test for color fastness, as peroxide can fade even bleach some fabrics. Follow with a stain pre-treatment (I like Shout).

Shipping was super fast! Great service and super fast checkout! The item was a bit bigger than I expected but I didn’t take the time to measure my space vs. the size of the hamper. It’s great quality and I found a spot for it. It is a big hamper and it does indeed fit about 4 loads of laundry which is awesome! Thanks!
Eating oatmeal with berries is always a great way to start your morning. But be sure so drink water with it as well! Drinking water in the morning will get that metabolism going and will also help flush toxins from your system. Anyways… People will agree and disagree. Some will believe things that are not true, and some will never believe something that is true. Some will try to prove things just like you are doing. However, actually having a controlled test is very meaningful and I applaud your efforts.
No one denies that magnetism can affect water. On the other hand, as the many pages which debunk this scam explain, the power of the magnetic field required to affect water in any meaningful way is orders of magnitude more than what you get when you throw a couple magnets into your washing machine.
*Laundry detergents and stain removers frequently contain alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs), which are common surfactants. APEs can damage the immune system, and they are suspected hormone disruptors, which means they can mimic hormones in the body that regulate reproduction and development.
Normally I wouldn’t give something as boring as laundry detergent a second thought.  Whatever detergent is cheapest is what I’m going to buy.  But after reading a post from a holistic-minded friend of mine about the chemicals in many of today’s name-brand detergents got me thinking about alternatives.
Although MWT appears to be effective in some cases, the parameters of water composition, magnetic field strength, treatment geometry and flow rate that lead to satisfactory performance have never been clearly defined. Closer study often reveals that other factors (such as pH change) could account for the improvements that might otherwise be attributed to MWT.
Water Liberty (Adya Clarity) even makes outrageous claims that imply the high-aluminum formula can prevent cancer, saying, “proven to remove accumulated carcenogenic [sic] heavy metals and toxins from your body by as much as 40% — cancer-causing contaminants such as mercury, lead, arsenic, aluminum, and more!” But the so-called “research” upon which this is based is clearly fraudulent (see below).
There have been a few studies on the efficacy of magnetic water softening systems. This one (PDF) from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory compares chemical and magnetic systems against a control. The table of results for scale buildup are pretty compelling:
I’m very pleased with the Magnetic Laundry System; thanks for offering it. I could see how dirty the water was in the washer, so it’s obviously doing a terrific job of cleaning.  Also the clothes have no smell when removed, compared to before. thanks again!
I work in the restaurant business, I like them to try them on our clothing before I buy them. Getting out grease, blood, and different sauces is a pain. I really haven’t found anything that works 100%
I was dubious, as you probably are as well.  But Care2 is a pretty reputable site, and the upside of never needing to pay for or use laundry detergent again is pretty high.  Furthermore, I figured that if it was a scam, then I’d have fun performing an experiment to prove it.  So I went ahead and ordered a set of the magnets.
“Professor Klaus Kronenberg says «magnets actually change the nucleus of water and that is the source of its seemingly magical properties. A diet of magnetized water makes cows give more milk, chickens grow fatter and lay more eggs. and cantaloupes and other crops grow larger and have better yields with less fertilizer.»”

This outfit offers science-naive consumers a “technology” that “treats fluids to enhance their performance.” And not just water! By “re-structuring” liquid and gaseous hydrocarbon fuels, they claim to improve energy efficiency. It even increases the efficiency of refrigerant liquids such as Freon! How does this work? This technology
The hard numbers show that the store-bought detergent did 4 percent better across the board at stain removal than Crystal Wash. Crystal Wash performed about the same as hot water, and from these results we can conclude that Crystal Wash had a negligible effect on stain removal.
“By ‘magnetizing’ or polarizing drinking water, those noxious ‘lumps’ will not build up,  and instead we see amorphous structures which are easily assimilated or discardable.  In addition to getting softer water, the water temporarily acquires new dissolving, anti-calcareous, relaxing and invigorating properties.
Safe Wash not only sells laundry disks, but includes a link to the laundry-disk-skeptical World Wide Scam Network and is a member of something called the Association of Ethical Internet Professionals.
Not to mention the fact that we have no way of knowing how many customers have purchased the product or how many of them are satisfied with it, since Life Miracle has not published those statistics and I assume they have no intention of doing so.
One of the most pressing considerations that you may be thinking about is how this system works. After all, just the idea of a magnet cleaning your clothes seems ridiculous. However, there is a science behind it that has not only been tested, but proven to work as well.
Several manufacturers offer juice-producing machines that incorporate magnets, which they variously claim, without any supporting evidence, to mellow the taste [link], to enhance the stability of the juice [link], or generally to maintain the freshness of fruit and vega table juices. A typical false claim is that the magnets

As I’ve already explained here the ads on my blog are selected by Google AdSense based on the keywords in my blog postings, and I have no control over the ad selection. It is entirely unsurprising that AdSense would automatically display laundry detergent ads on a blog posting about laundry detergent.
A good example is the very well-written but scientifically dubious 1997 article Quinn C. J., Sanderson C. W, Molden, T.C, “Magnetic treatment of water prevents mineral build-up”, published in 8/97 Iron and Steel Engineer
If particles are actually precipitated, it should be possible to observe them, either by direct collection in a micropore filter or indirectly by light-scattering methods (nephthelometry), but there are no apparent reports of this.
Another common claim is that MWT causes calcium carbonate to precipitate as aragonite, a crystalline modification of CaCO3 that is slightly less stable (and more soluble) than the much more common calcite structure. Some evidence for this has been reported in the literature[⇒]. But it is not clear that the physical properties of aragonite differ all that much from those of calcite.
Magnetic Laundry System is an innovative product to support each and everyone in the world because it is eco-friendly to save water and trees for having the healthy life as well as an environment to lead the life cycle of human beings. This magnet will help you to remove the strain from the clothes with newly launched patented technology without using the single drop of harmful chemical detergents. Because generally ingredients added in detergents are used to kill the insects, if you use that clothes washed with harmful detergent, our skin may absorb the chemicals and it may create health issues like cancer or skin irritation or heart disease or whatever it may be. But when you start using this product you can get the chance to extend the life of your clothes as well as yourself to enjoy all day long without worries.
I was just wondering last night if there is something that can be used instead of laundry detergent – even though I already use a good natural detergent. I have a question about the enzymes, though. How often do you have to buy more?
It sounds simple and it is, however simply waving a magnet over a cup of water will not create a cup of cleaner.  Researchers found that the position and strength of the magnets, as well as the size of the magnetic field is critically important. Their efforts led to the development of the Magnetic Laundry System, a virtually indestructible water restructuring system, that lasts a lifetime.
I just want to comment here, as I represent the manufacturer of this product. I COMPLETELY disagree with Jonathan’s assessment of the product itself, and believe he has gone way overboard of his criticism of our product. I can’t spend hours on end debating point-by-point all he has posted, but I believe all of his critiques are without merit, and the vast majority of our customers would disagree with him as well. This is the first time in eight years a customer has so virulently attacked this amazing product.

“Purchase Magnetic Infomercial Laundry System Colorado laundry magnets”

An article Resist the pull of magnet medicine (incorrectly cited as appearing in the Winter 2003 issue of Health Quarterly but quoted here) discusses a variety of magnet-related medical scams; see this latter link for experiences of patients who have tried magnets for diabetic neuropathic pain.

I am really a concerned citizen with no stake in any of this except to make a dent where I can in the blind rage of mob mentality whenever there is fear of being duped. We would stop reading websites full of nothing but criticism entirely and we would stop listening to all conventional media if we were really wanting to avoid being duped. I, for one, use websites with blind attacks on anything alternative as solid evidence that what they attack works great! If it did not work, it would not get enough of their attention to attack it!

If you know that it may in fact be “just the water” that’s cleaning your clothes, which is indeed the whole point of my exposé of the Magnet Laundry System, then why would you be “happy to use the laundry magnets”? Why would you be happy to pay for something you don’t actually need? Why not just wash in plain water and not waste your money on the magnets?

Technically, magnetism works because it increases the speed of sedimentation of suspended particles in water (and other liquids) and enhances conductivity and the process of ionization or dissociation of atoms and molecules into electrically charged particles. (New Scientist, June 1992.)

I’ve ordered some for my sister (I can’t mail order anything for myself cuz I live in Italy and the postal service can’t be trusted!!), so maybe I can post back with my sister’s comments as soon as she gets it.

How does it work? “Makers of the Eurowash Laundry Ball mount 4 powerful, permanent magnets in a durable plastic bracket which is then covered with a tough, vulcanized blue rubber. Two tunnels through the middle of the ball allow water to flow directly through the focused magnetic fields. The result is a virtually indestructable water restructuring device.”

I have no control over the ads on my blog. They’re selected automatically by Google AdSense based on the content of each page. And since I’ve made a total of something like $200 in the four years or so since I put ads on the blog, believe me, nobody’s paying me to run ads in support of the laundry detergent industry.

“I have been using Adya Clarity for 3 months now. I add the drops to a jug of tap water at night and in the morning I can see tiny particles of all the yucky stuff that is in the tap water floating around the bottom of the jug. I love the taste of the water, I also clean my fruits and veggies with it. I give it to my plants and my pet. Here is a picture I took of the contaminants at the bottom of my glass after adding Adya Clarity.“

Best Answer:  I understand why you’d want to check this out, I have kids and a dog and a husband in construction, so I know about dirty laundry too. This so looks like one of those scams. Really, how could magnets take out all the soil and stains in your laundry. If that would work, you could do it yourself by hand with any magnet you had at home! It’s very easy to make up things on the internet and make up phony quotes that sound good. Here’s a link by a chemist who researches phony science and scientific claims:

Jim Zimmerman, of Life Miracle at lifenatural.com did contact me personally with detaills needed to return Laundry Magnets. So Life Miracle seems for now to be good on at least there guarantee. Got to admit, after 6 calls and as many emails, I was getting a little scared. Jim seems to be a stand up guy though.

“Hoax! This is yet another attempt at extracting cash from people with false claims. Magnets DO NOT change the molecular structure of water. Simple as that. You may get some mechanical cleaning from the balls rubbing against the clothes, and it’s true that water is a good solvent, but there’s no way it will work as good as detergent. If you want to experience this laundry miracle, try throwing a few smooth rocks in with your laundry. Your clothes will no doubt get a bit cleaner, but I’d recommend some detergent to go with it.”

Right, because no one could possibly be motivated to spend the time debunking crackpot science out of a desire to elevate the general level of scientific education in the world and help prevent people from wasting their money on products that don’t work.

I can get it in wisconsin at my grocery and dollar stores I use Dr Bronners castile cleanser and aloe vera gel with baking soda and washing soda. Two drops lemon essential oil. Apple cider vineger at rinse time. My clothes are brighter, Never dingy or stinky.

The product’s website claims that you should add 5-8 drops of WaterLiberty to an 8oz glass of water, or about 5 tablespoons to purify a bathtub full of water. In addition, it’s claimed that you can even put 3 teaspoons of the product into a bucket of water and use it to wash vegetables for up to 8 months. And once all the contaminants have been separated from the water, you can put it through a coffee filter or a normal gravity filter to remove the leftover “debris.”

With that said, Jonathan claimed he did have difficulty in dealing with the product through the ordering process. What someone says about our product is completely outside of our control. What is within our control is how we treat our customers. We have a number of companies who buy the product from us and retail to the consumer. Jonathan purchased the product through one of our distributors. I cannot confirm the information posted above, but I will nevertheless take his word for it. I am also taking steps to communicate to this distributor so it never happens to another customer. If it does, their ability to sell our product will be jeopardized. Period. Our customers deserve our complete honor and respect.

For some users, MWT seems to be effective in controlling scale deposition; there are too many favorable anecdotal reports to dismiss it entirely. Looking at the carefully done studies on actual installations, the results are mixed. This suggests that the conditions under which MWT is effective are dependent on factors that are not well understood. Scientific studies on model systems suggest that magnetic fields have subtle effects on water[⇒] and can affect carbonate precipitation[⇒], even though H2O molecules are not paramagnetic. Some studies have shown that the presence of certain substances in the water can affect scale precipitation; these include iron ions, phosphates, silica[⇒], and oxygen.

Nano Towels – Amazing Eco Fabric That Cleans Virtually Any Surface With Only Water. No More Paper Towels Or Toxic Chemicals. Save Money, Clean Faster & Easier and Make Your Home Safer & Healthier 4 Ct

This statement confuses the bonding within H2O and the much weaker intramolecular hydrogen bonding that operates between molecules. Within H2O, each oxygen is permanently bonded to two hydrogen atoms. Connections between the hydrogen of one molecule and the oxygen of another are so weak that they are continually being broken by thermal motions and re-formed. Only in ice can one attribute a permanent structure to the water that extends beyond a single molecule.

Effect of magnetic water treatment on homogeneous and heterogeneous precipitation of calcium carbonate. One of the most thorough studies on this subject was published by a group in France in 2006 (Fathi et al, Water Research 40 (2006) 1941-1950). Using a system in which a supersaturated solution of CaCO3 was repeatedly circulated through a magnetic field, they found that the mass eventually precipitated was greater than in the absence of the field. The effect was greater at higher flow rates (with or without the field) and treatment durations of up to 15 minutes.  The effect is  more pronounced for homogeneous nucleation than for heterogeneous nucleation. Although the mechanism is not clear, the authors suggest that the magnetic field may affect hydration changes as ion pairs [Ca2+ CO32–]0 form.

I’d say that marginally intelligent people like myself who retain vestiges of total gullibility will have fallen for the “toxic detergent” bait. However, completely rinsing my clothing of that residue, to the tune of $69, is the real joke.

Aqua-Phyd sells a device intended primarily for treating irrigation water. It is a “non-chemical water and soil treatment technology and service. Aqua-PhyD treated water will reduce soil compaction and create optimum growing conditions for plants and turf.”

I sent an email to Kacper Postawski Companies about it and was advised to use White vinegar in the rinse cycle. I did this for several weeks, as I only do my laundry on Saturday. I have found no difference since using White vinegar in the rinse cycle.

“When we magnetize the water, all the electrons take on the same charge. Because like charges or poles repel each other, the molecules are pushed away from each other breaking up the associations into singular stasis known as molecularly mono-atomic.”

“Resonant frequency energy waves are then induced into the flowing irrigation water with the result that the energy waves travel unimpeded through the irrigation system and through the sprinkler or drip system to then move freely and efficiently through soil with each drop of treated water.” [link]

Commercial promotions of MWT devices tend to make excessively optimistic claims without offering credible supporting performance data. And when they do offer “case-studies”, they are rarely thoroughly researched to engineering standards, and are frequently difficult if not impossible to verify. Some invoke the malevolent actions of the conventional water-softener industry (conspiracy theories are one of the favorite refuges of pseudoscience advocates of all kinds.) I myself have been accused (on certain Web pages) of being a secret employee of the Water Quality Association trade group !

Yes, the initial purchase stings. I purchased the MLS from Water Liberty. It cost $69.99 for the starter pack of two magnets, plus $5.99 for shipping. However, MLS offers a limited lifetime warranty, and claims your family might save $500 per year if you stop buying detergent from the store. A total of $75 for laundry for the rest of my life, or even just the next five years? SOLD.

NO……..
A mí me huele a troll.

Stain removal depends on three things: Agitation, water, and chemistry. Anyone whose ever blotted out a food stain from a shirt in a restaurant bathroom knows that different stains require different methods of removal. That’s why we used stain strips to quantify how each cleaning agent performed.
Q.  I’m somewhat skeptical but keeping an open mind here – partly because I believe the human race is slowly poisoning itself through it’s food and water supply. And I have grandkids with signs of what I consider allergies and am concerned about what goes into their bodies and what they are exposed to. Can you put my mind at ease about trying your product?
Or is it more likely that you’re too dimwitted to understand the proof that I and others have proven that these magnets are a scam? (The four spelling errors in four sentences, one of them a run-on, would seem to support that theory.)
At worst, the products are completely useless’. Even worse, a laundry ball can completely ruin your clothing, and render your washing machine useless. If you ever get the chance, pick up a laundry ball and have a feel of the casing. Cheap plastic, right? When that cheap plastic is spun round and round in the washing machine over and over again, it’s inevitably going to break down. And what’s going to happen when all those ceramic beads and magnets are let loose in the washer? That’s right, you’re going to end up with snagged fibres and damaged machine internals.
THEN I thought, hmm, here’s the real test, I have recently been working on a cat hoarder house …. the lady would buy things and open the carton (case in point, from Animal Rescue Site, some footies with pawprints) and never use the item, so the cats would go in the box and pee on everything…. (note: cats did not have proper litterpans in this home).
I’m just reporting back that Detergent Truth would not give me their address or an RA# for a return. (It was past their whatever number of days return policy, but a scam is a scam). My bank credit card company was happy to deal with them. I wrote up my description of how they were not scientifically proven and used this website as a reference. Thanks Jonathon.
Contact whoever sold them to you and ask how to get a refund. Prepare to be stonewalled, but if you are persistent you will probably succeed. As a worst-case scenario you can dispute the credit-card charge.
Consumers buy over $3 billion worth of laundry-detergent products per year. The Magnetic Laundry System has been on the market for eight years, and the manufacturer claims that it makes most of those billions of dollars worth of detergent obsolete. Nevertheless, its sales even today are miniscule. Is that plausible it really works?
Although one purpose of detergents is to reduce the surface tension of water so as to encourage it to spread evenly over a surface instead of forming droplets, the primary role of a detergent is to “solubilize” small particles of grease-like “dirt”. Detergent molecules tend to be long chains that possess water-soluble properties on one end, and water-insoluble (oil-like) properties on the other end. Operating on the principle that “like dissolves like”, the water-insoluble ends tend to embed themselves in the dirt particles so that the water-soluble ends stick out, disguising the particle as water-soluble and enabling it to be washed away. I am not aware that any claims that magnets can serve this function.
Does it occur to you to wonder why, if the fact that magnets can clean clothes has been known for years, there isn’t a single washing machine manufacturer anywhere in the world selling a unit which has built-in magnets to get the clothes clean? Do you think there is a vast global conspiracy funded by the laundry detergent manufacturers?
FYI… I havent tried these magnetic balls yet, but, it’s extremely difficult for me to accept “naysayer” credibility when the naysayers website is sponsored by traditional laundry detergent companies. NEXT.
Got some interesting mail about laundry balls. First, reader David Harris reported his satisfaction with the Laundry Solution, a laundry ball sold by TradeNet. “It has performed well even on the smelly dog blankets we keep on the furniture to ward of hair and dirt from a greasy Airedale,” he wrote. “Without the detergent residue, cottons are noticeably fluffier without using softener or drier sheets (great for towels).” He went on to tout the company that developed the Laundry Solution for TradeNet, American Technologies Group, which “created a coolant that is both safe and 20 percent more efficient than freon, and is working on a particle beam device to neutralize nuclear waste.” Laundry balls and particle beams! Are these guys brilliant or what?
One purveyor of MFT poppycock makes the absurd claim that their magnetic device “puts a strong, positive charge into the fuel”, and they even offer a set of three magnets for the fuel system, radiator water (!) and air intake (!!) The site makes numerous claims about fuel savings and emissions reduction, quotes many “testimonials” and even some performance data which I consider inadequately documented and find very difficult to take seriously. They claim that their magnets employ “mono-pole technology”, which to me implies the use of monopolar magnets, although no such magnet is known to science; another page on the same vendor’s site describes their fudging on this matter but offers no supporting evidence or references to what they refer to as “magnetic single focus”.
If letting your beverage re-align itself in a magnetic cup takes too long for you, this magnetic funnel gets the job done more quickly. Magnetic Technologies LLC makes the ridiculous claims, totally lacking in scientific support, that magnet-treated water

These laundry systems are completely patented and independently proven to work. There isn’t another non-detergent laundry technology that holds two patents in the United States and has been proven to work through Independent Laboratory testing. This is evidence enough that the Magnetic Laundry System is on a whole other level from the laundry ball or washer ball.
The negative field is used in most treatments to help the body heal. When a cell’s electrical charge is elevated from its stressed, improperly charged state to a highly-charged negative state, the cell’s natural ionic forces
(That’s not even a complete list.) Some of these deal specifically with the Life Miracle Magnetic Laundry System and other magnetic laundry products, some of them deal specifically with the classic TradeNet “laundry balls” scam and products like them, and some of them deal with both. All are relevant, because Life Miracle is using exactly the same strategies for marketing its product as all the other laundry scams have used in the past (claims to revolutionary technology, reliance on anecdotal evidence, environmentalist appeal, etc.), and like the perpetrators of all those other scams, Life Miracle has offered no objective evidence that its product works.
When we first heard about Crystal Wash, we immediately thought of all those “laundry balls” that appeared on home shopping channels in the 1990s. The majority of these were determined not to work, and given their affiliation with a lot of multilevel marketing schemes it’s not surprising.
I was skeptical about the “magnetic process” that the company claims, and had no luck finding a convincing or legitimate answer to my queries, just a lot of repetition about “surface tension of water” without any correlation between disrupting the tension, and HOW that would aid in cleaning laundry.
The only thing missing is the one thing which Life Miracle could publish only if the product actually works: the results of rigorous laboratory tests showing that clothes washed with the magnets end up cleaner than clothes washed in nothing but water.
We came to a solid conclusion: When it comes to stain removal, Crystal Wash does not work any better than hot water. And, when it comes to some important stains, Crystal Wash often works far worse than laundry detergent.

Have you know about that magnetic force? Here is the product that harnessing which incredible force and also focusing it in your home washing machine to affect the whole water. At an atomic level, all the thing is affected by magnetic. You will don’t have to buy any another set of the Laundry System units because it operates from the renewable and permanent magnetic source. It is the laundry detergents will work to clean all of your clothes, but are really non-renewable petrochemicals and create you the good health and eliminate the environmental risks and potentially avoids the poisonous chemical by-products.

I struggled a bit with this one.  My husband’s gym clothes stink.  The magnet system works great for getting out all the dirt, and MOST of the time it gets the smells out too.  I found a nifty little trick though…
This might NOT work for folks who prefer their clothes smelling “fresh.”  I mean, these don’t come out smelling like anything. If you like a hint of lavender, ocean breeze or citrus sunshine this will not do it for you.  Also, if you are of the belief that detergent kills germs, this might not suit you.  Really, it’s hot water that does that, so you can still relieve your germ worry with this system.  And if your water is too anything (hard, soft, whatever), your results may greatly vary. All I know is this has worked very well for my family.  So much so that I am willing to give it the Productive Mama thumbs up and signed up as an affiliate.  I can only share that they are working wonderfully for US.
But on sweat stains, detergent did a whopping 14 percent better at cleaning than Crystal Wash or water. This is, in our opinion, Crystal Wash’s greatest failing: Since clothes are worn by people, they almost always get sweat stains. Unless you’re okay with wearing dingy shirts with yellowed armpits, you should stick with detergent.
I can not handle the dyes and perfumes in detergents so, I use ECOS from Earth Friendly Products, Addison, IL 60101 1.630.595.1900; call from 9-3 CT/ M-F. efpclean.com and ecos.com sold at Walmart. The other one I buy is homesolv from citrasolv, Danbury, CT 06813-2597 1.800.343.6588; http://www.citrasolv.com. I also use vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda detergents such as Arm and Hammer. I react terribly to chemicals; anytime I come in contact with them I can taste them for anywhere between 1/2 a day to 2 days and I don’t wash with them because I itch so much. I urge everyone not to buy the magnets until they have actual evidence confirming their results. In the mean time try searching for detergents derived from plants.
It is difficult to assess this paper. His experimental results are interesting (there are photographs of the crystals), but much of the interpretation strikes me as suspect. Even more off-putting is the quotation attributed to him in the section on agricultural applications.
They do a great job of removing dirt, but nothing works like bleach for making things white again.  That said, I’ll only add bleach when necessary.  This translates to about 80% our washes being completely chemical free.  🙂

{Non-chemical technologies for scale and hardness control}. This 1998 document which has been withdrawn from circulation was a Federal Technology Alert from the U.S. Department of Energy that presented a suspiciously uncritical case for both magnetic and electrostatic water treatment. It provided no references to support the claims made, and the explanations of how these devices are supposed to work were scientifically naive. The report was apparently compiled by the Battelle Research Institute, which may have farmed out some of the work to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
As I pen off, I have to appreciate the fact that the magnetic laundry system magnetic laundry system works with water at all temperatures and still gives best results. The choice of water thus remains in your hands.
There are very few scientifically validated reports of successful MWT installations in the mainstream scientific and engineering literature. Given the potential economic benefits of a widely-applicable chemical-free softening process, especially in arid regions such as the U.S. southwest, one would expect a lot more scientific and engineering support.
Does it occur to you to wonder why there is no research supporting the claim that these magnets do anything to clean clothing? Do you wonder why the manufacturer of the magnets asked an independent laboratory to compare washing clothes with the magnets with washing clothes in plain water, and then didn’t publish the results of the latter half of the experiment?
I just got a full refund on these crap magnets. I’m not getting a refund on the clothes that have baked in stains in them, now. Second, my Samsung steam washing machine now errors out during the wash cycle and have to restart the cycle. Did the magnets ruin the programming on my washing machine? Those fuckers. Where’s the class action law suit? I want to sign up.
